SIZE
In the ounces to tons range are common.
SURFACE FINISH
Normally in the 200-1000 rms range.
WALL THICKNESS
Minimum section thickness of .125" -
.175".
GENERAL TOLERANCES
General overall tolerances of ±.030 in.
for dimensions up to 6 in. with an additional .003 in. for each inch over 6
in. can be held for concentricity, flatness, straightness, and mismatch, but
this is considered to be the minimum and more liberal tolerances should be
specified whenever practical.
CORED HOLES
For the normal foundry process, holes with
diameters smaller than 1/4 in. generally are not cast but are machined as a
post-casting operation.
ALLOYS
Wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous
alloys.
|
DRAFT
Typically 1-5 degrees draft.
FILLETS
Adequate fillets at all wall intersections
and at all angles where bosses or depressions are involved are almost
mandatory for the proper flow of metal. Sharp angles weaken the castings
and may cause cracks during solidification or removal from mold.
MECHANICAL
PROPERTIES
Tensile-Yield-Elongation – as per the
appropriate commercial and military specifications.
DELIVERY
Samples 2 to 8 weeks. Production 1 to 6
weeks after approval.
TYPICAL APPLICATIONS
A large variety of applications throughout
various industries for sand castings where volumes are generally low to
medium and certain complexities, metallurgical properties and/or sizes are
required.
